Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 4: Dark Web

One of the weakest Spider Man runs in years...it simply repeated in a very rushed way story lines and crossovers from previous years (like Inferno and Gang War) and then added a bunch of incredibly awful "new characters" though I don't know how new you can label spiderman version one million. Quit it with all the variations of Spiderman, we just want regular old Spiderman! It felt like way too many things were happening from issue to issue, stories just don't flow in a normal fashion...so its a bombardment of ideas and situations that we've already seen and have been done better before. The new stuff is not good enough to be memorable.

So Im guessing Joe Kelly watched the Japanese horror film Spiral and decided to take Spiderman on the same journey. People dying in deaths that all have to do with a spiral...the redeeming factor for me here is seeing Peter and MJ reconnecting...could a reunion be on the horizon? Personally, I don't like crossovers because they just feel like Marvel is trying to get you to buy all these other books...which of course is entirely their purpose here. Let's hope the story will prove to be interesting and eventful enough to make it worth our time and money.

Enjoyed this story about a secret gambling society, that plays games which determine the fate of humanity. There's all types of players, most of them demons and monsters and there's certain rules to the game, or you die! Loved the world, the lore, the games and the art style! Zamudios art was reminiscent of Mike Mignolas style, playing with light and silhouettes. Recommended for lovers of the magical and the bizarre, the horrifying. Left with an open door to future series, where other games are played and the fate of the world is hanging in the balance?

Awesome comic book so far, I know Absolute Batman is the talk of the town right now, but this Batman is very different, but just as good in terms of quality. Both the writing and the art are compelling. On this issue Batman visits The Joker and it feels like a scene from Silence of the Lambs with Clarice visiting Hanibal Lecter...it all leads to a "revelation"...Jorge Jimenez's art is perfection, I hope he stays on the book for a very long time.

Loving the concept, basically, we see the story from the zombies point of view. They talk amongst themselves about being a zombie and about eating brains. One of them is Poke, the main character, who suddenly starts hearing his heart beating again! Could he be becoming human again? The artwork by Stipan Morian is amazing, it reminds me of Sam Kieths artwork, so yeah, I kept thinking of The Maxx while reading this one. Loved the first issue, can't wait to see where this one goes.

I love everything Phillip Kennedy and Nic Klein have been doing with The Hulk. The whole mother of horrors story lines was amazing, I mean, turning The Hulk into a horror comic was the right move, considering he is for all intents and purposes "a monster". Love how gory and monster filled it's gotten, Nic Klein just takes it over the top with his art. It's not the first time in The Hulk's history that Hulks monster and human side have been separated, I love where it's going though, with the whole "hell on earth" idea...I look forward to every issue. Will Bruce and The Hulk reunite?

This issue was written by Skottie Young, who obviously has a firm grasp on what makes the character of Lobo tick. Lobo's character and eccentricities are here in full effect, you're getting the Lobo you've known and loved. This time around, Lobo is being picked to be part of a live television show about bounty hunters...anybody want to take a guess how this will go down? Corona does an amazing job with the art, I feel he was the perfect choice for this Lobo revival. His art is detailed, sketchy and loud, just like Lobo should be. So far so good, fantastic first issue.

I loved this series, it felt like an old film noir. It had all the right elements, a detective, a dame in peril, a dangerous city...but all in a world in which all types of monsters live in one city, werewolves, zombies, vampires, mummies all living together but not in peace! The city is L.A. like I'd say. The main character is the classic doomed detective. This comic was like mixing a film noir with an old Universal Monsters movie.

I haven't been enjoying Superman for a while now...too many things happening all at once, jumping from one event to another...where's that story that I can follow and enjoy? Nowhere to be seen, because it's all tied in to something else I am not reading. Great art, but it's all one big mess as far as I'm concerned. Writer really need to have their audiences in mind when coming up with their overly complex stories...don't lose your readers, make sure concepts and ideas are understood...this books too messy for me right now! I stick to it only because I love Superman and hope that it will get better.

I miss the Jason Aaron/Juan Ferreyra team, but I have to say that the new team is starting to grow on me. The artwork by Freddie Williams is top notch, beautiful colors and is actually understandable and the story by Gene Luen has me, I mean, is Master Splinter truly back or is something weird going on? Splinter is back and of course, that alone is exciting, no wonder my local comic shop sold out this issue! We get to see Splinter and the love of his life share the after life and it is explained to us how and why he came back, which presents us with an interesting premise. The story has a few elements in common with say, the Terminator movies, because now Splinter knows how the turtles are going to die and who kills them, so he will attempt (with the help of the turtles of course) to change it. Or can he? This one ends on an awesome cliffhanger! TMNT is one of my favorite books out right now, IDW is consistently picking excellent writing/drawing teams who have been producing some awesome work. I am probably not alone in saying this has been one of the best TMNT runs in a while. Don't mess it up IDW! Keep the level of quality going!
