Absolute Catwoman #1 is a perfect jumping-on point for new readers and a real treat for Catwoman fans. It successfully subverts what fans know about Selina Kyle without losing sight of why she's a beloved character. Read Full Review

I dug this first issue of Absolute Catwoman immensely. We are invited into Selena’s life in a way that the reader hasn’t been before. Che and Snyder have built this backstory for Selena that is familiar but works within the Absolute Universe. The art team is light-handed with their action sequences and is firing on all cylinders, making this a standout debut issue. Read Full Review

Absolute Catwoman #1 delivers a solo spotlight worthy of one of DC’s most iconic characters, but it also throws enough compelling twists into the mix to make this feel like a wholly fresh take on the character without losing what makes her special in the first place. That was a tall order, but the debut more than succeeded, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

As fun as it is, the first issue of this new series is still working with tropes that have been echoing through Catwoman comics for a long time. So there's nothing terribly new here. It's the way the creative team brings it to the page that makes it really appealing. And it makes this particular version of Selena seemed that much more interesting than anything. That's been done with the character in the past couple of years. For the most part, anyway. Once again, it really appears as though the Absolute Universe has the kind of momentum that could really build into a compelling and enjoyable companion universe for the central DC comics line. Selina Kyle’s world is upended by ghosts of the past in a thrilling debut chapter. Snyder and Grayson present a version of Kyle forged through harsh reality. Bengal and Niro bring the action with amazing art. The Absolute Universe has another monster hit on their hands with this one! Read Full Review

This is a strong first issue with bite, beauty, speed, and emotional bruising underneath the shine. It is not just a new costume. It is not just another “Selina steals something” story. It is a statement piece. It says this Catwoman is not here to be someone else’s subplot. She is the apex predator of her own lane. Read Full Review

Absolute Catwoman #1 is another amazing entry into the Absolute Universe. It builds beautifully on the foundation from Absolute Batman, offering intense action throughout. Yet this is still unmistakably a Selina Kyle story, even if she is far more like the Bat than the Cat. Read Full Review

Absolute Catwoman #1 delivers a phenomenal opening salvo that successfully separates itself from the weight of decades of DC continuity in an effort to carve a new path. By blending high-tech gadgets with a grounded story about survival and old loyalties, Che Grayson has built a world that feels completely unique but familiar. I cannot wait to see what other secrets unfold, and am excited to see Selina reach new heights of popularity due to this new exposure. As a massive Cassandra Cain fan, I cannot WAIT for this new interpretation of the character. Looks like the Absolute Universe has more lives than some think. Read Full Review

    Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez

    Jun 10, 2026

Absolute Catwoman #1 introduces readers to the history of Absolute Selina Kyle when an old acquaintance arrives, bringing trouble with her. The character and world-building are exceptionally thorough, and the art is darn good, but the uneven pacing kills momentum in the middle and the inciting incident begins much too late to hook you. This is a nice, fast pace start of a new series. Although it's not a BANGER straight in your face... it's simple, finesse, quick, smart, neat, action full, high tech, smooth,... eveything you can expect from this absolute series.

    Well done, I'm in.

Bengal’s art shines, the writing not so much… nothing really wrong with it except it doesn’t really feels like an absolute series. For now, absolute Selina is not so different from mainline Selina… but I will definitely stick around to see if that changes.

Really solid start. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this one. With Absolute Green Arrow, there were a lot of hooks going in (slasher horror, killing billionaires, the mystery of who Green Arrow is, etc.). Here, there wasn't really much to go off of aside from the solicitation itself (which I did feel was on the more generic side) and the fact that we're focusing on a character introduced in Absolute Batman. All of that said, I thought this was pretty good. I definitely felt that Bengal's art was the strongest aspect of this, but I didn't think Grayson was bad on the writing duties either. I don't mention Snyder because I do have a feeling that he's more of a story consultant on this, rather than a full-on writer, in that he's there more

It was enjoyable. A well-written comic with an interesting Selina Kyle, but nothing you wouldn’t already find in the main DC Universe.

The whole point of the Absolute Universe is to give us different takes on familiar DC characters, with unexpected or compelling new hooks. Here, I don’t really see what makes this comic superior to, or even significantly different from, a standard Catwoman book.

Bengal is the right artist for this book. Also Kaare Andrew’s variant is fire.
Unfortunately, there is nothing about the book that deserves the Absolute title..
