Alpha Flight tracks down the location of Marrina & attempt to break into the Master's stronghold to rescue her. The Master tells Marrina of his origin & why she is a threat to Earth. In the second story, the origin of Vindicator / Guardian is concluded. (Cover date: October, 1983)

Namor & the Invisible Woman, searching for the source of the poison in the Arctic Ocean, join Alpha Flight in the Master's ship & save Marrina from death at his hands due to the Master believing that she will destroy the Earth due to her alien heritage. (Cover date: November, 1983)

(#1) Northstar talks to a psychologist about Aurora's Jeanne-Marie personality. Her Aurora personality returns after a purse snatching. Northstar's father figure, Raymonde Belmonde, is murdered by mobster Ernest St. Ives by touching his face. St. Ives kidnaps Aurora, thinking she is Raymonde's daughter. St. Ives wants Belmonde's restaurant business. (#2) Archaeologist Richard Easton conceives a child with Nelvanna, the goddess of the Northern Lights. Strangely, Easton returns nine years later to the now closed archaeological site. A year later, Shaman uses his magic to deliver Nelvanna's child, who becomes Snowbird. (Cover date: February, 1984)

(#1) The coroner tells Northstar & Danielle Belmonde that he can find no cause of death for Raymonde after being touched by "Deadly Ernest". Northstar goes to Ernest's estate & finds Aurora with him but is knocked out by a goon. He awakens to find Nemesis in the room with him. Ernest tells Aurora how he came by his Touch of Death in WWI when he defied Death on the battlefield. Nemesis & Aurora then show up. When Ernest's death touch doesn't work on Nemesis, she slices him into pieces with her molecule-thick sword. Northstar pulls off her mask thinking it is Danielle but it is not. Later, Aurora accuses Danielle of being in collaboration with Ernest when she returned home to her father. Danielle is taken away by the police. Northstar accuses Aurora of romancing Ernest while being held captive, & she leaves him in a fury. (#2) The Hudsons visit Michael & a now grown Narya at his cabin. At night, Heather sees Narya adopt her snow owl avatar. In the morning, Michael tells them about Narya's true nature. James offers them a position with his Department H. (Cover date: March, 1984)

After a number of people in Toronto are killed by a creature in Lake Ontario, & Heather almost becomes another victim, Puck summons Marrina to help, believing the creature is one of her race, the Plodex. (Cover date: September, 1984)

Marrina goes into Lake Ontario to find whatever has been killing people. She comes back in a berserker rage, attacking both Puck & Namor. The scheming Master stands nearby watching the event unfold. (Cover date: October, 1984)

While he holds Namor & Puck captive in his submarine, the Master tells them how he escaped death in his first meeting with Alpha Flight. He shows them Marrina in her savage state. Bochs recruits Jeffries to help him get revenge for Guardian's death. Wolverine comes to see Heather in the hospital. The Master shows Namor & Puck the Plodex he caught in Lake Ontario & lets it join Marrina. Puck escapes from his cylinder by pretending to be dead & frees Namor. They release Marrina & the monster, which damages the Master's submarine. After Namor carries Puck to the surface, he returns later to tell Puck that he was unable to find Marrina. After Namor leaves, she emerges from hiding, not wishing to see him. She feels that she is nothing more than a monster & no longer wants to see people, including Alpha Flight. In the hospital, Heather & Logan reminisce about Guardian's failed attempt to retrieve Logan & return him to Alpha Flight after he joined the X-Men. Puck talks Heather into becoming the new leader of Alpha Flight. (Cover date: December, 1984)

(Cover Date: August, 1987) Summary: Scramble's touch brings out Whitman Knapp's latent power to split into four separate beings (Manikin). Alpha Flight fight off Omega's attempts to absorb them. Omega destroys Roger Bochs' mind when he begins to rebel against him. Purple Girl gains control of Omega & has him change Madison back to normal. Madison returns to the modified Box robot & kills him, knowing that he will continue to be a threat. The missing Aurora is seen having reverted to her other introverted personality.

(Cover Date: September, 1987) Summary: Alpha Flight sees a rose growing out of the frozen tundra, clearly a sign of magic. They seek the Fountainhead to cure Northstar & Aurora of their afflictions. Box drills down to find the source of the magic & finds the Viking village. They are watched by Loki, who is angry at them for not accepting his gift of godhood due to its price (see X-Men / Alpha Flight LS). Loki decides to direct some mischief toward them. Alpha Flight goes down the drill hole & finds the former location of the Firefountain, which is no longer there. Aurora finds a golden faerie gate at the bottom of the chasm. They open the gate & go inside. Loki changes the runes on it back to their evil forms. Loki inflicts a fever on Northstar so that he is no longer able to go with the others. Aurora decides to stay by his side, even in the dark. The team finds a black firefountain in another chasm. They are attacked by dark elves. Puck is knocked off of a walkway into the black firefountain, which changes him back to his normal size but releases the demon Raazer that was inside him. Northstar & Aurora are confronted by Loki & darklings. Loki shows them how their father met their mother, a Light Alfer elf, & were married. After they were born, their parents were pursued by Light Alfers, which led them to dying in a car crash that the infants survived. After Loki leaves, they are attacked by the darklings. Aurora decides to give Northstar all of her light to cure him. The darklings take Aurora away while Northstar is fighting against them. The rest of AF is confronted by Raazer, whose scimitar drains away lifeforce, & dark elves. Northstar arrives to stun Raazer with his light. Overwhelmed, the team flees to the gate & closes it per Heather's orders, even though Puck & Aurora have been left behind. Back on the surface, Northstar flies off & the gate to Alfheim opens to admit him. Loki finds himself in front of We Who Sit In The Shadow to be judged for taking revenge against Alpha Flight. In his defense, he tells them that he did them good. Aurora was cured of her multiple personalities & taken to a place where she will find peace. Now cured, Puck was sent to Tibet, a place he loves. Told that he is returning to Asgard, Loki instead finds himself faced by Raazer & the dark elves (as a lesson for changing signs). On the flight back to Tamarind Island, Heather ponders what has occurred to AF under her leadership, but decides that she is in the best position to lead the team.

(Cover Date: October, 1987) Summary: Alpha Flight fights against a crack team of commandos in a mock invasion of Tamarind Island & wins. The Beta Flight members, Purple Girl & Manikin, get a chance to practice their powers under combat conditions. Afterwards, the team meets with their government liaison, Gary Cody. Heather argues with Cody about the government's apparent lack of trust in them. Cody's job is to monitor AF due to the government's concern regarding their strength, increasing independence & potential instability. In order to learn as much about them as possible, he secretly downloads the data on AF's computer onto a "raider disc" for analysis later. Heather apologizes to Cody for her words earlier & thanks him for his support. Comments: Features the first pencil artwork by the great Jim Lee for Marvel (he gets alot better!).

(Cover Date: November, 1987) Summary: Gary Cody's portaputer synthesizes visuals from the data captured by his raider disk off of AF's Alphanex computer. Mac tests his prototype cybersuit. Wolverine tells Mac that he is leaving Department H. Mac gathers the original members of Alpha, Beta & Gamma Flights. Cody feels that if the current Alpha Flight turns against humanity that they would defenseless. He goes back to a time before Logan left & AF was formed. Mac shows Logan a man, a convict, wrapped in bandages who has latent powers. Mac wants to turn him into a hero. Further data on Mac's experiment was erased, but the raider disk did have information on a secret location. Cody finds a cocoon inside & thinks that such beings might be used to control Alpha Flight, if necessary. Meanwhile, the members of Alpha Flight relax outside their HQ on Tamarind Island. The cocoon is shown opened now, & Cody is leaning against the wall, perhaps either dead or in shock. A machine in the room activates, sending a phone message to Logan at the X-Mansion that Bedlam is free.

(Cover Date: December, 1987) Summary: At Gary Cody's request, Alpha Flight flies to Ice Station Redleaf in Antarctica to investgate its missing scientists. Heather falls down a geothermal vent into the Savage Land after being hit by lightning. Now amnesiac, she rescues some misfits from being sacrificed by their tribe & then trains & leads them. They help the misfits' former tribe fight off attackers as Sasquatch & Box arrive to rescue Heather. The misfits are accepted back into their village. Before departing, Heather talks about how the misfits' situation parallels Alpha Flight's own with the Canadian government.

(Cover Date: December, 1987) Summary: Alpha Flight, with an assist from Wolverine, battle for their survival against the revenge-seeking Bedlam & the Derangers, who were created from criminals by JMH for Department H.

(Cover Date: January, 1988) Summary: After their fight with Bedlam & the Derangers, the team tries to repair the complex to block out the intense cold. Per Purple Girl's request, they go outside to find Goblyn. Goblyn attacks them & slashes Saquatch, Vindicator, Box & Manikin. Purple Girl learns Goblyn's mutant origin when she attempts to take control of her twin's mind. Goblyn calms down when Kara cries, but then AF enters the room intending to kill the creature. Kara shields Goblyn with her body to keep Vindicator from killing her. Goblyn cries when Kara says that she will protect her.

(Cover Date: February, 1988) Summary: Sasquatch is manipulated by the Great Beasts to build a doorway for them to enter the world. After Sasquatch declines to join them in conquering the world, the team joins her to battle against them. Box converts some of his mass to nuclear energy to destroy their final surviving opponent, Tundra, but also seemingly destroys the entire Alpha Flight team as well.

(Cover Date: March, 1988) Summary: The team is inside Box as a starship, which is traveling at warp speed through space. Box has lost his sanity after his fight with Tundra. The team is attacked by "Bedlamites" released by Goblyn. Heather destroys the Bedlamites infecting the Boxship's brain, & Box recovers his sanity.

(Cover Date: April, 1988) Summary: The Boxship lands on a gaseous world to gather needed mineral resources. The team fights against living crystals that prevent the ship from departing.

(Cover Date: May, 1988) Summary: After Purple Girl inadvertently links Goblyn's mind to the warp drive, the Boxship crashes on Liveworld. The Dreamqueen holds Laura captive, seeking how to enter the real world.

(Cover Date: June, 1988) Summary: Eugene Judd is in China to see the High Lama about living a new life just when the priests are under assault by Red Chinese soldiers, including one who can turn into the Jade Dragon. The High Lama brings Alpha Flight, the Dreamqueen & her minions to Earth based on Judd's wish to join them.

(Cover Date: August, 1988) Summary: Vindicator & Box have been summoned to appear before a Canadian Parliament committee to answer questions about their recent activities in Red China (last issue) & their resistance to government control. Hearing that their funding may be cut off, Walter/Wanda finds that he/she can't access his/her wealth due to being in Snowbird's body.

(Cover Date: September, 1988) Summary: After Alpha Flight breaks up due to a lack of funding, Purple Girl (Kara) returns home to her mom, taking Laura & Goblyn along with her. Killgrave, the Purple Man, returns from the dead as a zombie, along with other zombies, claiming that Kara wished he was alive. Killgrave tries to kill Kara for raising him from the dead. She tries to wish him dead again, but it doesn't work. Goblyn attacks the other zombies, & they wither away. Kara sets Killgrave on fire to finally destroy him.

(Cover Date: October, 1988) Summary: A computer virus infects the Box robot while Madison Jeffries is inside it. Madison is unable to control the robot. It goes to a nuclear missile base in North Dakota in order to "transfer" its missiles. Madison defeats the robot by creating a new Box at the missile base.

(Cover Date: November, 1988) Summary: In the middle of a probate hearing where Walter (Wanda) Langkowski is contesting his estranged wife's claim to his fortune, the Great Beasts & Northern Gods appear to claim Sasquatch as one of their own.

(Cover Date: September, 1987) Summary: Spidey fights against Electro after his henchmen free him from a police paddywagon. He defeats him with water from a fire hydrant. Robbie Robertson holds a surprise party at the Bugle to congratulate Peter on his upcoming marriage. Peter gives MJ her ring while sticking to the apartment's ceiling. After leaving, MJ listens to a cassette tape from Bruce in his Ferrari. At Aunt May's home, Peter recalls his early days as Spidey & Gwen's death. When MJ arrives, they tell May & Anna that they are getting married. After they leave, MJ gets into Bruce's car with him. MJ shows up at Peter's apartment later & asks him to take her to where he goes to think. He takes her to the top of the Empire State Building. Afterwards, Peter spends the night looking at a picture of Gwen. After MJ & Peter get their marriage license, Peter asks Flash to be his best man. At dinner, Peter is about to tell MJ they should call it off, until she shows him a picture of her wedding dress. At Peter's bachelor party, Peter expresses his doubts about getting married, but Flash & Harry talk him out of calling it off. MJ gets a telegram from the persistent Bruce at her bachlorette party. That night Peter dreams of marrying MJ as Spidey with super-heroes & villains in attendance. Gwen tells Peter goodbye forever. Peter wakes up after the super-villains come after MJ, intending to kill her. MJ is picked up by Bruce after the party. Peter sits at the top of the Brooklyn Bridge holding a picture of Gwen. Both say that they have to make a decision. On their wedding day, MJ arrives an hour late in Bruce's car. Peter then shows up carrying his shoes. They exchange their vows. At the reception, MJ tells Peter that Bruce paid for their honeymoon to Paris, since he wasn't going on the trip with MJ. On returning, Peter carries MJ into their apartment with one arm & their suitcases in the other.

(Cover Date: September, 1988) Summary: Spidey, DD & Speedball team-up to destroy the High Evolutionary's machinery on top of the Empire State Building, which is about to render people in the city unconscious so that those with undesirable DNA can then be eradicated. Comments: Features the first appearance of Speedball (Penance).

(Cover Date: January, 1969) Summary: The Kingpin takes advantage of a student protest at the ESU Exhibition Hall to attempt to steal the petrified clay tablet. Spidey tries to stop him, but the Kingpin gets away with the tablet after Spidey is forced to save Randy Robertson from being crushed to death. Spidey follows the Kingpin's car, unaware that the Kingpin is leading him into a trap.

(Cover Date: February, 1969) Summary: Spidey looks for the Kingpin after he stole the clay tablet from the ESU Exhibition Hall. While waiting, Kingpin slaps a henchman after he mentions his wife. The protesters, including Randy Robertson, are interrogated by the police as to whether they were working with the Kingpin. Gwen gets into a spat with the protesters outside when they mention Peter. Spidey finds the Kingpin's hideout but senses a trap. The Kingpin's henchmen fire at a web dummy in the window. Spidey swings in to knock them out, then engages the Kingpin in personal combat. Kingpin grabs Spidey's forearm, & Spidey pretends to pass out from the pain. Spidey resumes the fight when the Kingpin lets go. Spidey webs up his cane, causing it to explode, which stuns the Kingpin. As the police arrive to arrest the Kingpin, he tells them that Spidey is his accomplice. Spidey follows the Kingpin's aid, Wilson, to where the tablet is stored & takes possession of it. When Spidey alerts the police outside, they shoot at him. An angry Spidey declares that if he is going to be treated as a menace, then he will become one.

(Cover Date: March, 1969) Summary: In his jail cell, the Kingpin rages about Spidey having the clay tablet. A cop shoots at Spidey to try to arrest him. At his apartment, Peter hides the tablet in his closet & tries to sleep, while thinking about his current worries. At ESU, Gwen thinks that Peter is a coward by leaving when trouble comes up. With Robby present, the dean tells the protestors that the trustees have voted to convert the exhibition hall into a low-rent dorm & that they have been granted amnesty. The Kingpin escapes from his jail cell by breaking out the bars. Thinking that a robbery is in progress, Spidey falls into a trap by the Kingpin. Spidey fights against the Kingpin who wants the tablet on him. JJJ & Ned drive up in a Bugle car & call the police to arrest Spidey. Kingpin is picked up by his wife. Angered, Spidey grabs JJJ after he accuses him of stealing the tablet. JJJ suffers some type of medical condition & collapses. Spidey wonders if he is as dangerous as JJJ says he is.

(Cover Date: May, 1969) Summary: The Shocker breaks into the Stacy home & stuns George Stacy. He steals the clay tablet from the safe. The Shocker stuns a pawnshop owner after he tells him that there is no market for the tablet since Spidey is involved. Pete hears about the Shocker on the radio & tracks him down. They fight, & the Shocker leaves after knocking Spidey off of a building, but not before Spidey tags him with a spidey tracer. JJJ becomes enraged in the hospital after seeing the Daily Bugle has a favorable headline about Spidey. Gwen gets upset with Pete after he becomes jealous about her & Flash. Spidey tackles the Shocker after he robs an armored truck. At the end of the fight, Spidey knocks the Shocker out & takes away his wrist units. Spidey takes off after one of the armored truck guards starts to shoot at him. The guards find the stolen loot, along with a webbed-up Shocker.

(Cover Date: June, 1969) Summary: Based on information provided by Capt. Stacy, Spidey goes to the Shocker's girlfriend's apartment, where he finds the Maggia's Man-Mountain Marko looking for the clay tablet. They get into a brawl. While Spidey is knocked down, Marko drops the woman out of a window, forcing Spidey to save her, while he escapes with the tablet. Marko delivers the tablet to the Maggia crime boss, Silvermane. Dr. Curt Connors is kidnapped in Florida & is brought in front of Silvermane.

(Cover Date: July, 1969) Summary: Silvermane coerces Curt Connors to decipher the petrified tablet by holding his wife & son. After Spidey arrives to question Caesar Cicero, he is attacked by Maggia goons. After Connors deciphers that the tablet is a formula, Silvermane drinks the serum he creates untested. Silvermane transforms into the younger, stronger version of himself.

(Cover Date: November, 1969) Summary: Peter sees Gwen talking to Flash about his mysterious disappearances & thinks she has moved on from him. Mechanical genius Hobie Brown creates his Prowler alter ego in order to make a name for himself. JJJ shows up while Peter is confronting the Prowler after he robs a Daily Bugle safe.

(Cover Date: December, 1969) Summary: Peter throws himself out of the window so that he may return as Spidey to confront the Prowler. After they scuffle, the Prowler escapes from Spidey using his gas pellets. Hobie thinks that he will be accused of killing Peter. He decides to clear his name by capturing Spidey & delivering him to the police. Later, Spidey finds the Prowler robbing a jewelry store. The Prowler tries to escape after his gas pellets don't work due to Spidey's gas filter. Spidey catches him & unmasks him. After hearing Hobie's story, Spidey decides to let him go, since he hasn't done any real harm yet.

(Cover Date: January, 1970) Summary: Disguised as Captain Stacy, the Chameleon steals priceless paintings from the museum while Peter & Gwen are in attendance. They return to the Stacys' apartment to find that Captain Stacy is still there & in a state of confusion. Peter suspects the Chameleon is involved & has Robbie headline a story in the Daily Bugle to draw him out. Later, Peter is taking pictures at the location where a large bond transaction is to take place. He then looks for the Chameleon as Spidey. Spidey interrupts the transaction meeting when his Spider-Sense alerts him, but he can't identity which person in the room is the Chameleon. He waits outside while people are leaving & identifies the one that is the Chameleon. After Spidey thwarts the Chameleon's attempt to escape, Spidey unmasks the Chameleon, who was disguised as Peter Parker. Spidey declines to answer Jonah's question how he knew it wasn't Parker.

(Cover Date: February, 1970) Summary: While Peter is picking up Aunt May at the train station, the Kangaroo escapes from police custody. The Kangaroo unknowingly steals a cannister containing a vial of deadly bacteria. After hearing about the theft & public danger on TV, Spidey looks for the Kangaroo & finds him attempting a robbery. Spidey is reluctant to go all out on the Kangaroo due to fear of breaking the vial. Spidey manages to separate the vial from the Kangaroo, but he lets the villain escape to return the vial to the authorities.

(Cover Date: March, 1970) Summary: After Electro finds out that Spidey will be appearing on a late night talk show, he gets JJJ to agree to pay him for beating & unmasking Spidey during the show. At the TV studio, with JJJ in attendance, Electro attacks Spidey with his electric bolts. Spidey manages to web Electro's hands & feet together, causing him to short-circuit himself. Electro escapes after Spidey is stunned by the resulting feedback.

(Cover Date: June, 1970) Summary: The Kingpin feels that Vanessa has betrayed him after helping the Schemer to escape. Spidey tracks down the Schemer & unknowingly delivers him to the Kingpin to collect the reward money. The Schemer reveals himself to be the Kingpin's son, Richard Fisk, who was thought to have died in the Alps years ago. Richard tells the Kingpin that he had admired him, until he found out that he was a crime lord. He vowed to topple his father's criminal empire after feeling ashamed of the lifestyle that it had paid for.

He uses a local electrical power station to defeat his opponent. (#2) Spidey visits a boy, Tim, who collects Spider-Man memorabilia, after reading an article about him in the Bugle. Spidey answers all of his questions & even reveals his secret identity to him. Afterwards, we learn that Tim is dying from terminal cancer. (Cover date: January, 1984)

The Hobgoblin meets with a group of businessmen that he intends to blackmail, including J. Jonah Jameson & Harry Osborn. Spider-Man intervenes but is hit with a pumpkin bomb containing a gas that nullifies his spider-sense & knocks him out. The Hobgoblin decides then to kill him. The Kingpin blocks the killing goblin blast, & the Hobgoblin decides not to challenge him & leaves. After Spidey wakes up, Kingpin tells him that the Hobgoblin is a potential threat to his interests, & he would prefer that Spidey takes him down. (Cover date: February, 1984)

Spidey is chased out of the club by the businessmen that Hobgoblin is attempting to blackmail. Harry tells Peter that Hobgoblin may be a club member. Spidey questions some of the club members, including "Roderick Kingsley" & JJJ, whether they may have a clue as to Hobgoblin's identity but this proves fruitless. Spidey finds JJJ writing a story about his involvement in creating the Scorpion. Spidey tells him not to publish it to save his career. Peter finds his old spider-tracer, since his spider-sense was neutralized earlier by the Hobgoblin's gas. Spidey surprises Hobgoblin in his lab. When Hobgoblin activates his automated ray cannon, he realizes that Osborn's journals are in danger of being destroyed. He throws a pumpkin bomb at the cannon, resulting in a large explosion that is seen by the people outside. JJJ sees the smoke from his window, then gives the copyboy his Scorpion story to be published in the Bugle. Spidey inflicts additional damage, but the Spider-Slayer gets away. MJ calls Pete to come to Pittsburgh after encountering an unseen person in her sister's house. After repairing the Spider-Slayer, Smythe tracks Pete to the airport & finds out that his plane has departed for Pittsburgh. Smythe decides to follow him there.

(Cover Date: September, 1987) Summary: In Pittsburgh, Spidey web-slings his way to his hotel. Smythe has his crated Spider-Slayer loaded on board a 747 bound for Pittsburgh. Peter goes to Gayle's home & finds MJ with her estranged father. They leave after an argument, & MJ tells Peter about the stolen manuscript scheme that her father & sister are involved in. MJ decides that she is going to help her father. In prison, MJ walks away after talking to Gayle. Peter convinces Gayle to help MJ. MJ & Peter retrieve the manuscript at its hidden location at Duquesne University. The Spider-Slayer finds them there, & Peter leads it away as Spidey. The Spider-Slayer catches Spidey by a bridge & holds him underwater. MJ, in pursuit, slams a car into its leg, which frees Spidey. The Spider-Slayer pursues Spidey up Mt. Washington with MJ following in the trolley. MJ hits the Spider-Slayer with a bat while it is pummeling Spidey. The Spider-Slayer grabs MJ & is about to deliver a lethal blow when an enraged Spidey attacks it from behind. Spidey rips open the Spider-Slayer & pulls Smythe out, warning him to never harm anyone else again. Later, Peter & MJ go to Gayle's house to deliver the stolen manuscript to her father. The police come out of another room & arrest him. MJ says that she didn't want to put Peter in the position of supporting her when she was doing the wrong thing. Peter & MJ say goodbye to Gayle, who is out on bail, & to her sons. In the Pittsburgh airport, MJ tells Peter that she will marry him.

(Cover Date: October, 1987) Summary: (Continued from Web #31) Kraven stands before Spidey's headstone, dressed in Spidey's costume, & starts laughing. A woman caught in the rain is dragged down a manhole by Vermin. MJ is waiting for Peter to come to her apartment to help her move her stuff. In the back of her mind, she imagines that he is dead. Spidey-Kraven enters a room in his penthouse where spiders are kept behind glass panes. Kraven laps at a mind-altering concoction & imagines that he is fighting against a giant spider composed of the thousands of small spiders. Vermin finishes off his meal. He sees a newspaper with a picture of Spidey, which makes him afraid. (Vermin had a bad encounter with Spidey & Cap previously.) As he eats a rat, Vermin hears MJ walking over the manhole cover above him & wonders what it is. She is out in the rain looking for Peter. She encounters two creeps. Kraven continues to fight against the giant spider & is covered by it, symbolizing his surrender to becoming Spider-Man. MJ is running from the two creeps. As she is caught by them, "Spidey" shows up & beats them to a pulp. As "Spidey" climbs away up a wall, MJ realizes that it wasn't Peter. Vermin crawls out of the manhole to convince himself that he isn't afraid of Spider-Man anymore.

(Cover Date: November, 1987) Summary: Vermin tries to break out of his electrified cage. Spidey punches Kraven, but Kraven doesn't retaliate. Kraven tells him that he has proven to be his superior. Kraven dons his regular outfit & leads Spidey to a sub-level where Vermin is caged. Kraven brags that he defeated Vermin alone while Spidey needed Cap's help. Kraven releases Vermin & provokes him into attacking Spidey. After Spidey stops fighting, Vermin jumps him from behind & knocks Spidey senseless. Kraven stops Vermin from doing any further harm & tells him to go. Kraven tells Spidey that he is free to go after Vermin. He also tells Spidey that he will never hunt again. While looking at a picture of his family when he was a boy, Kraven takes a rifle out of a coffin & puts the barrel in his mouth. He believes that he has finally found peace & happiness in his life. He pulls the trigger, & his body falls into the casket. Comments: This issue features the death of Spidey's long-time foe, Kraven. I got Watchmen vibes while reading this.

(Cover Date: December, 1987) Summary: After being shot & patched up, Peter is taken to the Mad Dog Ward. He is sedated so that he can't think clearly. Peter finds that Vicky Gibbs is being held in solitary confinement. The head doctor uses dream manipulation to create a new assassin for the Kingpin, Brainstorm. Objecting to a new type of straitjacket, Peter leads the other patients in an uprising that is quickly put down when they are all sedated. Only the head doctor knows that Peter is really Spider-Man.

(Cover Date: January, 1988) Summary: During a rainstorm, Spidey walks & wall climbs back to his apartment since he ran out of web fluid. At a psychiatric facility, Doc Ock has a nightmare about Spidey during his radical sleep therapy. The next day, he has another nightmare about Spidey. His mechanical arms break free of their clamps. Spidey rescues people who are in the arms' path of destruction. The arms break into the facility & rejoin with Doc Ock, who then escapes. Doc Ock returns to one of his secret lairs & coerces his former henchmen into rejoining him. Spidey has the Bugle publish an article that Doc Ock's doctor is going to write a memoir about him. Doc Ock confronts the doctor at the facility. Doc Ock is then surrounded by the police & Spidey. Although Doc Ock is seized with fear at seeing Spidey, his arms lash out at his would be captors. Spidey draws the arms to the facility's basement & uses hot steam to force the arms to withdraw Ock to safety. Back in his lair, Doc Ock plans to destroy Spidey by destroying Manhattan.

(Cover Date: February, 1988) Summary: Doc Ock steals a deadly bacillus bioweapon from the military in order to kill the inhabitants of Manhattan as a way of getting even with Spidey. After Spidey finds Doc Ock, which causes him to become catatonic again, he lets Ock's mechanical arms beat him up to get the abort codeword. This causes Doc Ock to come out of his shell. Now satisfied with his victory over Spidey, Doc Ock gives the codeword to his henchman to stop the release of the bacillus via helicopter.

(Cover Date: March, 1988) Summary: Chance kills an informant who is about to be transported to court by federal agents. The Life Foundation hires Chance to steal a foreign arms shipment. Spidey is at the pier, working on the story for Joy Mercado, when Chance arrives on the scene. As the weapons are being loaded on a submarine, Spidey briefly tangles with Chance, until Chance gets away by causing a crane arm with weapons to fall. Back at the Life Foundation, Chance is shocked unconscious by its head man, Drake. A shadowed figure views newspaper headlines about Spidey, vowing vengeance. His hands become covered with black: the alien symbiote!

(Cover Date: April, 1988) Summary: Spidey tracks the captured Chance & the stolen military weapons to Carlton Drake's survivalist compound in New Jersey. Spidey frees Chance, & they fight against the guards while escaping. Chance blows up the weapons, destroying the compound. MJ Å•eturns to their apartment to find Venom waiting inside. Comment: First full appearance of Venom.

(Cover Date: May, 1988) Summary: Peter returns to the apartment to find that MJ has been terrorized by Venom. When Spidey catches up to Venom (Eddie Brock), Brock tells him that he ruined his career by revealing the real identity of Sin-Eater. Spidey has a struggle with Venom & is knocked out. He wakes up to find himself heavily webbed to the inside of the large church bell where he broke free of the symbiote. Spidey manages to break free of the webbing before the clapper can kill him. Realizing that Venom must generate his own webbing & has used a lot, Spidey gets him to use up his remaining reserve, & Venom falls hard to the ground. Spidey takes the unconscious Brock to the FF building, where he is put into a sonics protected cylinder. After hearing MJ's misgivings about his black costume, Peter returns to wearing the classic red & blue one.

(Cover Date: June, 1988) Summary: Silver Sable is hired to test the security systems for a new office building. After his Spider-Sense tingles, Spidey finds out that the head of security is the son of a Nazi war criminal, who the Wild Pack had captured. Sable goes through the security systems, not realizing that they had been adjusted to kill her. Spidey stops her from pressing a button to signal the completion of the test. The button would have set off a bomb & killed her. Sable grudgingly thanks Spidey for saving her life.

(Cover Date: July, 1988) Summary: Peter tours On-Line Research in Emporia, Kansas in consideration of accepting a job offer from Jacoby, the company's head man. When an acetylene torch explodes, Peter (as Spidey), see construction boss, Wes Cassady, running at super-speed to contain the fires. Later, Spidey visits Cassady at his home to learn that he acquired his powers after being bitten by a radioactive rabbit. Cassady tells Spidey that he just wants to be normal. Dr. Nero, in the riot suit he developed, demands the plans for the secret projects the company is working on from Jacoby. Spidey confronts & fights to stop Nero. Spidey asks Cassady for help after being stunned by sonics, but Cassady declines to act. Spidey recovers to take Nero out. After arriving back home, Peter tells MJ that he wants to take the job. MJ tells him that she does not want to leave New York.

(Cover Date: August, 1988) Summary: Spidey is hired by Silver Sable to join her & Sandman in bringing down Franz Kraus & his band of Neo-Nazis. Peter decides to stay in NYC to support MJ's career & to go back to school to get a job locally someday.

Harry arrives back at their apartment, so Pete has to scramble to make sure that he doesn't see him in his Spidey suit. In the city, Quicksilver recalls escaping from Magneto's island with Wanda & the Toad & crashing their ship in the Adirondacks. He left them to talk to the Avengers. Jarvis tells him that they are in Africa. Quicksilver sees a newspaper headline that Spidey is wanted by police. He decides to apprehend Spidey to redeem himself. Peter sells his pictures of the Kingpin & Spidey at the museum to Robbie. Spidey delivers the clay tablet to Captain Stacy. Spidey is confronted by Quicksilver who tries to overcome him with his speed. In the hospital, JJJ becomes apoplectic when he sees the Daily Bugle newspaper with photos vindicating Spider-Man. Quicksilver creates a vortex around Spidey to draw away the air. Spidey stops him dead in his tracks with an arm thrust. He carries the dazed Quicksilver up the side of a building as the police show up. Quicksilver decides to give up the fight & says he will find another way to redeem himself.

(Cover Date: April, 1970) Summary: In his bid to replace the Kingpin as the "King of Crime", the Schemer begins to strike at the Kingpin's operations. After the Schemer's henchmen cause an auto accident that almost kills Gwen, an angry Spidey locates the Schemer's HQ & has a confrontation with him & his gang. The Schemer escapes after pinning Spidey in a hydraulic press. Later, Gwen is upset with Peter for not seeing her sooner in the hospital. P.S. Medicaid paid most of Aunt May's medical bills.

(Cover Date: May, 1970) Summary: Motivated by a $5,000 reward, Spidey tracks down the Schemer to the Kingpin's mansion, where a confrontation is occurring between the two & the Kingpin's wife, Vanessa. Spidey & the Kingpin get into a brawl that ends when the Kingpin realizes that the Schemer has apparently kidnapped his wife.

After Madame Web has a vision of being killed by the Juggernaut, she calls Spidey to seek his help. Spidey finds Juggernaut leaving a trail of destruction as he heads toward Madame Web's apartment and does everything he can to stop him. (Cover date: June, 1982)

Due to the Inhumans having recently been discovered by SHIELD, the Avengers are sent to the Moon by the UN Security Council to assess if the Inhumans pose a threat to Earth. The meeting is cordial until Moon rocks begin to be hurled at the Earth, and Black Bolt orders the Avengers' execution. A battle ensues between the two groups, which terminates when the reason for Black Bolt's bizarre behavior is uncovered. (Cover date: November, 1983)

In Hades, Hawkeye, Thor & Hank Pym are confronted by Nighthawk, Executioner & Swordsman. Thor uses his hammer's power to destroy the bomb, but sacrifices his own life. Hawkeye is the only one left alive after the fighting. Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight & Tigra are opposed by Drax the Destroyer, the original Captain Marvel, Death Adder & Green Goblin. She-Hulk, Tigra & Moon Knight are killed by their opponents. Captain Marvel destroys the bomb before she is killed by the combined powers of OG CM, Drax & GG. Silver Surfer finds himself in a meteor swarm & is confronted by Korvac. As Korvac removes SS's protective silver coating, SS rams his surfboard into the bomb to destroy it & killing himself & Korvac. Iron Man, Black Knight, Dr. Druid & Mockingbird face off against Dracula, Red Guardian, Terrax & the original Black Knight. IM beats Terrax but loses the functionality of his armor. Distracted by Dracula attacking Mockingbird, Tony Stark is unable to defuse the bomb before it goes off. Wasp, Cap & Wonder Man confront Bucky, Hyperion & Baron Blood on a frozen planetoid. Wonder Man & Wasp are killed by their opponents. After getting past Baron Blood & Bucky, Cap destroys the bomb with his shield. Hawkeye & Cap reappear before the Grandmaster as the only living survivors. GM begins Round 2 with the fallen Avengers in the Legion of the Unliving. Hawkeye appeals to Grandmaster's fondness for games of chance. Grandmaster picks the arrow without a head & loses the bet, thus freeing Death. Hawkeye tells Cap afterwards that he cheated. Death sends all of the Avengers back to the Astrodome alive & well to resume their baseball game. The Grandmaster is exiled from Death's Realm, thus condemned to eternal life. He swears to get revenge against the Avengers for foiling his scheme.

When Jan is in danger of being killed by the python, Yellowjacket is revealed to be Goliath. The Circus is then quickly defeated by the Avengers. Goliath reveals that his personality was changed from gases released from vials he dropped in his lab. Jan tells him that their wedding is still legal whatever his name is.

(Cover Date: February, 1969) Summary: Black Panther recharges the Vision with solar energy through the jewel on his forehead. Dr. Strange appears in his astral form & says that he needs the Avengers' help in order to save the world. He leads them to a graveyard where the Black Knight lies in a coma. Strange relates how BK was hit by a mystic bolt from the Crystal of Conquest by Marduk of the Sons of Satannish. Back in Avengers Mansion, Strange operates on BK to save his life. The Vision tells them of a report of new volcanos in Antarctica. BP receives a call that there is ice forming in Wakanda. BP & Vision go to Wakanda to find the Frost Giant, Ymir. Hawkeye & BK go to Antarctica to find Surtur, the Fire Demon. The Avengers attempt to hold the immortals at bay. Dr. Strange achieves mastery over the crystal & casts a spell that brings the immortals face to face. They strike at each other, releasing a force that sends them back to their own worlds.

(Cover Date: March, 1969) Summary: Black Panther summons his personal aircraft to take the team away from the cold & ice caused by Ymir & to Wakanda. Upon landing, they are attacked by guards until they are ordered by BP to halt. M'Baku, who was acting as chieftain in T'Challa's absence, is informed of their arrival & begins his scheme. M'Baku wants to return Wakanda back to its old ways. At dinner, the Avengers are drugged by the wine. BP wakes up to find M'Baku wearing the forbidden white gorilla suit. The two engage in hand-to-hand combat. BP is manuevered to fall into an atomic furnace but saves himself. When M'Baku is saved by BP from falling into the furnace, he fakes surrendering & then shocks BP with electrical cables. BP wakes up to find himself in bouds underneath the idol. M'Baku strikes the idol, intending to topple it on BP. Vision strikes the wall in their cell nearby, which causes the idol to tilt. M'Baku strikes the idol again, causing it to fall in pieces on top of him. The team rescues BP from his bonds. M'Baku is presumed to be dead beneath the rubble.

(Cover Date: April, 1969) Summary: Black Panther's airship, returning from Africa with the Avengers, loses its autopilot as it approaches Avengers Mansion. The Vision stops the craft on the roof using Hawkeye's magnetic cable & his increased density. They find Hank & Jan inside, having returned from their honeymoon. Hank says that he is giving up his Goliath identity, since it probably affected his mental state. They receive a call from "Nick Fury" who asks them to check up on the Black Widow in the Caribbean. As acting chairman, BP orders Hawkeye to remain behind due to his personal involvement with BW. Later, Hawkeye receives a brief call from BW saying that she is being held somewhere in the city. By the background noise, Hawkeye determines she is being held near Coney Island. He takes Hank's growth serum & dons his new costume. Egghead, Puppet Master & Mad Thinker see Goliath II on top of a train approaching them. They send their giant android, holding BW, to stop him. They exchange punches & get on the Astro-Ride. Goliath shrinks to avoid a punch & catches BW. The android falls off, leaves a big hole in the ground & is presumably destroyed.

(Cover Date: May, 1969) Summary: A death ray from Egghead's space station destroys a small midwestern city. Hawkeye tells the team he has adopted the role of Goliath & breaks his bow. Clint's racketeer brother, Barney, tells the team about his meeting with Egghead regarding the space station. He escaped from being killed by Egghead's robot. The team, accompanied by Barney, take a rocketship to the space station. After the team enters the space station, they are attacked by Egghead's robots. Egghead uses the Puppet Master's radioactive dolls of the Avengers to paralyze them. Barney dies after he jostles the paralysis ray, freeing the team. Goliath tells the team that he is Barney's brother, Clint.

(Cover Date: June, 1969) Summary: To the Swordsman's surprise, Egghead tells him about his time with young Clint Barton at the circus. Swordsman breaks into Avengers Mansion to kill Goliath for Egghead & Hawkeye for himself, but he doesn't know that they have new identities. Clint stops the other Avengers from interfering in his vendetta with the Swordsman. The Swordsman knocks the Avengers out with rays from his sword. He brings Clint to Egghead, thinking he is the Goliath that he wanted dead. As the Swordsman & Egghead fight over the mixup, Clint begins to revive. After the Swordsman is knocked out of a window, Clint uses a makeshift bow & arrow with a cable to save him from falling to his death. Clint feels that he now has closure for capturing the man responsible for his brother Barney's death.

(Cover Date: July, 1969) Summary: As part of a SHIELD test, the Avengers try to damage a cylinder of adamantium, but without success. Under some malevolent influence, Vision later steals the cylinder off the SHIELD helicarrier. Vision shows back up at Avengers Mansion to distract the team before Ultron-6 makes his appearance, wearing his new adamantium body.

(Cover Date: August, 1969) Summary: Ultron-6 attacks the Avengers in their mansion, ending in a stalemate. He flies off to his base, where he intends to activate his nuclear devices to destroy the city. He is met by the Vision, who is unable to stop him. SHIELD agents then arrive to recover the adamantium that the Vision stole to build Ultron-6. They neutralize the Vision with their vibro-guns. The Avengers arrive on the scene as the nuclear chain reaction has begun.

(Cover Date: September, 1969) Summary: Ultron's plan to nuke the city fails due to the Vision's interference. Ultron crashes into the UN Building while the Avengers are there to steal the secret for making adamantium from Dr. MacLain's mind. The Avengers try to stop Ultron, but it is to no avail. Ultron drains the mind of MacLain, but it is filled with thoughts that it cannot bear. Thor covers Ultron with a Black Panther supplied vibranium shield before it blows itself up. MacLain is revealed to be Hank Pym, who was hypnotized so that his sub-conscious mind held one thought: "Thou shalt not kill".

(Cover Date: October, 1969) Summary: The android Growing Man abducts the critically ill Tony Stark from the hospital, but the Avengers are there & try to stop him. They all are transported to Kang's throne room in the future. Kang recruits the Avengers to be players in his game with the Grandmaster for the life of his beloved Ravonna. The stakes are that if they lose, Earth will be destroyed. The Grandmaster arrives to begin the game. Thor, Cap & Goliath are transported back to present day Earth, where they are met by four members of the Squadron Sinister.

(Cover Date: November, 1969) Summary: The three Avengers are joined by Iron Man. They each go to a location on Earth to fight a member of the Squadron Sinister. Cap defeats Nighthawk at the Statue of Liberty. Iron Man defeats Dr. Spectrum at the Taj Mahal. Thor defeats Hyperion at the Sphinx. At Big Ben, the Black Knight interferes in Goliath's fight with the Whizzer, rendering the fight result void. Dismayed, the Grandmaster takes the Avengers & Squadron Sinister back to Kang's future.

(Cover Date: December, 1969) Summary: The Black Knight summons the spirit of the first Black Knight to tell him of the high-stakes game being played between Kang & the Grandmaster. Yellowjacket, Black Panther & the Vision are sent to 1941 Nazi-occupied Paris, where they are met by the Invaders. The Black Knight mentally transports himself to the 40th century through his bond with his ebony blade. The Invaders are defeated when the Vision flies through them partially materialized. Kang & the Grandmaster are confronted by the Avengers, who have been freed by the Black Knight. Kang chooses to kill the Avengers rather than save Ravonna, & they are struck down & left lingering on the edge of death. The Black Knight strikes down Kang with his ebony blade, saving the Avengers' lives. After the Grandmaster returns them home, the Black Knight is made an auxiliary member of the team.

(Cover Date: January, 1970) Summary: Cap calls a special meeting to inform the team that three top city officials are missing. Dum Dum Dugan videos in to tell them that a Scorpio sign was found at their homes & that Fury has been killed by Hydra's Bullseye. Rick tells the team that he found Scorpio in Fury's penthouse earlier, & Captain Marvel gave chase. Scorpio got away by using a blast from the Zodiac Key on Mar-Vell. The team receives a video from Scorpio & the screen explodes. They next find themselves immobilized in Scorpio's hidden base. The other members of Zodiac then appear before them to witness their execution. Yellowjacket summons ants to disrupt the control panel, freeing the Avengers. During the fighting, Scorpio is revealed to be Nick Fury. Rick disrupts Aries while he is using the Zodiac Key to destroy the Avengers. The Zodiac escape through the blast hole & seal it off. Fury tells the team that his brother Jake was Scorpio & is thought to be dead. Fury took Scorpio's place in order to flush out Zodiac, so that the Avengers could take them down.

(Cover Date: February, 1970) Summary: The Black Panther saves black singer Monica Lynne from being abducted by the Sons of the Serpent. Racial tensions are on display when Monica appears on a TV show afterwards. Being a black man, the rest of the Avengers agree to the Black Panther's request to take down the Sons of the Serpent alone. T'Challa infiltrates the Sons disguised as one of them. He is taken to their undersea serpent ship base but is immediately found out when he is unable to complete the Serpent Oath.

(Cover Date: March, 1970) Summary: While the Black Panther is being held in chains by the Sons of the Serpent, an imposter has been attacking businesses that support the Sons of the Serpent. The Avengers feel compelled to go find their missing "teammate". The Wasp spots the "Panther" robbing a jewelry store & summons the others. When the Avengers are closing in, the "Panther" is rescued by a craft using gas grenades. The Avengers zero in on the TV studio that the Supreme Serpent is broadcasting from to the nation. The imposter Panther is unmasked & revealed to be a anti-white black man. The real Panther is freed by the Vision & takes a mask off the imposter to reveal he is actually white. It is then revealed that the there are two Supreme Serpents, who are the white host & black guest of the controversial TV talk show. Their plan was to create racial division in order to seize power. After threatening the team with guns, they are both taken out by the Panther.

(Cover Date: April, 1970) Summary: Quicksilver seeks the Avengers' help in rescuing his sister, the Scarlet Witch, from Arkon, who has kidnapped her to be his mate. Quicksilver tells them that Arkon compelled her to read a spell that transported him to their world. When the team questions his story, Arkon appears again to abduct a group of nuclear scientists. He plans to use them to blow up the Earth in a nuclear holocaust in order to provide permanent light for his world. Comments: Yellowjacket & Wasp leave the team as active members & head for Alaska, where Hank will conduct research for the government.

(Cover Date: May, 1970) Summary: Using Thor's hammer, the team goes to Arkon's world to rescue the Scarlet Witch & to stop his scheme to blow up the Earth. After Arkon's troops are defeated, some of the team follow Arkon back to NYC to prevent him from detonating the Atom-Sphere. Their fighting stops when they learn that Thor & Iron Man, who remained behind, have restored Arkon's world's rings of light.

(Cover Date: June, 1970) Summary: Cornelius Van Lunt manipulates the Avengers into working for him by threatening to take over Stark Industries, thereby forcing Tony to ask for back rent on their mansion. Tired of the Avengers' interference in their money thefts, Kronus & his gang set a trap to kill the Avengers & to make it appear as if Van Lunt is responsible.

Grey Gargoyle overwhelms the Avengers in a surprise attack, but he is subsequently tracked down to his former apartment & defeated. (Cover date: January, 1980)

While Tony Stark & Simon Williams are touring a steel factory in Pittsburgh, "Inferno" is created when a worker with a piece of Thor's Uru hammer is intentionally knocked into a vat of molten metal. (Cover date: February, 1980)

After Yellowjacket/Hank is informed by Cap that he will be courtmartialed in three days for shooting a non-combative Elfqueen in the back, he devises a plan to redeem himself in his unwell mind. They are attacked by mechanical devices built by two-time loser, Fabian Stankowicz, who is looking to make a name for himself by defeating the Avengers. Fortunately, Mockingbird is there also to help put an end to Fabian's threat. (Cover date: January, 1984)

The Avengers arrive in San Francisco at Tigra's request to try to save Spider-Woman who is in a comatose state. Feeling that it is beyond their skills, Henry Pym & Dr. Strange are summoned. Unknown to them, Spider-Woman had travelled to the past with Magnus in her astral form to defeat Morgan Le Fay. She is unable to return to her physical body due to a spell cast by Le Fey which accounts for the "ghost" of her that is being seen. Her physical body destroyed, Le Fay plans to take over Spider-Woman's physical body, which will cause Jessica's astral form to fade away. (Cover date: February, 1984)

Responding to the Avengers Emergency Signal, She-Hulk, Tigra, Starfox, Wasp & Shroud pass through Dr. Strange's barrier into Jessica Drew's hospital room. Dr. Strange is using his magic to hold Spider-Woman's astral form together, otherwise, her body will become mindless. Morgan Le Fey shows herself to them from the astral plane. She tells them of her plan to take over Jessica's body when her astral form has faded away. She attacks the group with hazards from the astral plane. Dr. Strange sends Scarlet Witch, She-Hulk, Starfox & Shroud to the astral plane to engage her there. After Cap returns back to Avengers Mansion, a powerful surge occurs in the monitor systems that the spectral Vision cannot account for. Morgan creates a giant body for herself out of the substance of the astral plane to fight her attackers. Dr. Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto to send Jessica's astral form to Magnus in the astral plane. Magnus tells her of his history with Morgan. He then sacrifices the last of his magic & his own self to send Jessica back to her physical body. With Morgan's hold on Jessica now broken, the group in the astral plane, along with Strange, are able to defeat her & leave. Jessica is alive & well & is sitting up in her hospital bed. However, Henry tells her that her Spider-Woman powers are now gone due to her ordeal. (Cover date: March, 1984)

A hooded stranger heals his wounds suffered while escaping & tells him the Avengers are being held in the dungeons of Fortress Tartarus. Namor frees the Avengers from their constraints. The Avengers tell Namor that Zeus holds them accountable for the injuries sustained by Hercules. The Avengers go to free Thor, who is being tortured by Pluto. After doing so, they then take the Pathway of Infinity to go back to Olympus in order to get back home. However, Pluto destroys the Pathway in front of them. The Avengers turn to face Pluto & his unliving legions.

(Cover Date: September, 1987) Summary: Captain Marvel destroys Plutos weapons. The Avengers fight against Pluto's Unliving Legions. Thor fills the gap in the Pathway of Infinity with the gigantic rock that Pluto meant to crush the Avengers with. The Avengers cross the dimensional doorway into Olympus. There, they meet the stranger who shows them what the gods are doing. Namor goes to his old ally, Aphrodite, to seek her help. In the foundry of Hephaestus, Thor retrieves his hammer from him. They are attacked by Hepaestus' golden women automatons. The Avengers save Hephaestus & Athena from molten metal spilled from a giant crucible broken during the fighting. Namor brings in Aphrodite, & the Avengers convince the three Greek gods they are telling the truth about Hercules. They go to Apollo's chamber where Hercules lays. Artemis has brought the Wasp in front of Zeus. Dr. Druid tries to use his mental powers to heal Hercules. Zeus arrives with Ares & other gods & hurls a thunderbolt at the Avengers. Captain America survives but his legs are broken. Those Avengers still standing attack Zeus & those gods who are still supporting him.

(Cover Date: October, 1987) Summary: A half-awake Wasp remembers how she was captured by Artemis on a Caribbean beach. She wakes up in Olympus & is met by Hera, who tells her that Zeus' wrath toward the Avengers is wrong. The uninjured Avengers fight against Zeus & the gods loyal to him. Cap, Druid & Hercules are brought by Hermes to a cavern, where Prometheus tends to their injuries. Ares, Artemis & Dionysus are defeated. Prometheus uses the Caduceus of Hermes in a rite to heal Hercules. Zeus tries time & time again to kill Thor, but he is unable to die due to Hela's spell. Seeing the battered Thor, Captain Marvel, Namor & She-Hulk try to stop Zeus but fail due to his overwhelming power. In the cavern, Hercules wakes up & perceives the Avengers there as his enemies who must die.

(Cover Date: November, 1987) Summary: The Black Knight arrives on the scene after Zeus takes down Namor & She-Hulk. Elsewhere, Hercules lashes out at the other Avengers. Dr. Druid helps Hercules to remember the events leading up to his injury. The Avengers attack Zeus to strike him down. He responds with a force to knock them all unconscious. As Zeus swears to kill Thor, he is attacked by Hercules, who tries to stop him. Zeus & Hercules fight until Zeus delivers a blow knocking him out. Now recovered, the Avengers show Zeus that he has been fighting his son. Hercules tells Zeus that the Avengers are not at fault. Hera arrives to tell Zeus that Prometheus sacrificed part of his life essence to restore Hercules. The Avengers are treated to Olympian hospitality. Cap & Dr. Druid have been restored to health by Apollo, but Apollo couldn't do so for Thor. At an assembly of the Olympian gods, Zeus orders that no god can set foot on Earth again due to suffering that they have inflicted upon the mortals. Prometheus sends the Avengers back to Earth with a warning of a serious challenge to come for them. Back on Earth, Thor leaves to confront Hela to lift her curse. At Hydrobase, Marrina tells Namor that the Atlanteans left after Neptune carried him off, showing the god had rejected him. A week later, Cap hasn't shown up for their meeting. Captain Marvel wants to find out if he is in trouble.

(Cover Date: December, 1987) Summary: The Fixer controls a scientist to help him escape from prison. The Avengers are summoned to Ohio & battle the Mad Thinker's android, which has been appropriated by the Fixer. After defeating the android, the team finds that the Fixer is actually the scientist. The real Fixer has captured Marrina, who accompanied the team on the mission.

(Cover Date: January, 1988) Summary: After the Avengers receive a mental call for help from Mentallo, the team goes to the Fixer's warehouse hideout & battle through his defenses. Mentallo tells them that the Fixer's mind is something alien. After delivering the Mad Thinker's giant android to Hydrobase Island, they find the real Fixer inside the containment tube for the Super-Adaptoid. The "Fixer" contacts Machine Man, promising the return of his lost love in exchange for his assistance.

(Cover Date: February, 1988) Summary: The Super-Adaptoid & Machine Man repair Kree Sentry 459, damaged after its battle with Captain Marvel I. After becoming aware of this, the team decides to check on the status of other robots that the Super-Adaptoid might be seeking. After Dr. Druid & Black Knight take Tess-One from a military base, they are attacked & defeated by the three robots. The four robots ("Heavy Metal") land in a quinjet at Hydrobase, where the other Avengers are present.

(Cover Date: March, 1988) Summary: While the "Heavy Metal" robots fight against the Avengers & their allies on Hydrobase, the Super-Adaptoid taps into the team's computer to find the location of the Cosmic Cube & then summons it to complete its grand plan.

(Cover Date: April, 1988) Summary: After imprisoning the Avengers in cubes, the Supreme Adaptoid begins its plan to have adaptoids duplicate then kill all the humans on Earth. Unable to confront the Adaptoid directly without destroying reality, Kubik uses Captain America to defeat it by exposing the fallacy of its plan & the limitations of its own existence.

(Cover Date: May, 1988) Summary: Dr. Druid has dreams about a mysterious blond haired woman. The Avengers are invited to a gala by the city at the Lincoln Center. Marrina goes berserk after eating an aquarium fish & dives into the harbor, followed by Namor. Kang returns home & is immediately attacked by a Kanglet & female Kang. A leviathan sinks a ship & causes a tidal wave. The Avengers find the creature in the Bahamas. Namor stops them from attacking it, since it is his wife.

(Cover Date: June, 1988) Summary: While the leviathan attacks Miami, Namor warns the Avengers not to harm it, then follows it underwater. The Avengers debate whether the leviathan should be killed. Captain Marvel decides to try to save Marrina. They contact Dr. Hank Pym for help. The leviathan destroys a freighter & then a naval squadron after it is fired upon. Looking for the leviathan, the Avengers arrive to rescue the surviving crew members. Sitting by the now sunken navy ships, Namor realizes that he must set his love for Marrina aside & perform his duty.

(Cover Date: July, 1988) Summary: Dr. Druid creates the illusion of a sinking ship to draw the leviathan into attacking Atlantis, thereby convincing Namor that it must be killed. The Avengers track down the leviathan to find it destroying a ship. It is shot with a viral recombinant DNA harpoon developed by Dr. Pym. The creature turns back into Marrina. "Fred Flintstone " Kang is accepted into the Council of Cross-Time Kangs & is befriended by "Nebula" Kang. While Namor is flying with Marrina, she turns back into the leviathan. Thor & Captain Marvel combine their power to try to electrocute the creature to death, but it is to no avail. The Black Knight screams & passes out after Namor plunges his ebony blade into the head of the leviathan. The leviathan sinks into her nest made of ships it has destroyed. Her eggs hatch, & the hatchlings swim away, too quickly to make out what they look like. After the dead leviathan returns back to the form of Marrina, Namor swims away holding his deceased wife. As the team prepares to leave, Dr. Druid notifies the others that Captain Marvel is missing.

(Cover Date: August, 1988) Summary: The Black Knight suffers from the curse of his ebony blade after it was used to slay the leviathan. The female Kang (Nebula) creates an illusion of Dr. Druid defeating the Destructikon to save civilization. Captain Marvel returns to Hydro-Base in an emaciated condition & collapses. Nebula travels to Earth disguised as the woman in Dr. Druid's dreams. Dr. Druid uses his mental powers to have himself elected as the new chairman.

(Cover Date: September, 1988) Summary: Kang-Nebula transports a Mechanisaurus Rex from a future timeline to kill Thor, who she sees as a threat to her plan to obtain the ultimate weapon. Thor is ordered to attack the robot alone by the compromised Dr. Druid. Thor has difficulty dispatching the battle robot, but the Black Knight goes to Thor's aid, against Druid's wishes, & uses his Ebony Sword to help destroy it.

(Cover Date: October, 1988) Summary: Nebula takes mind-control of the Avengers to obtain a Celestial weapon from a time bubble, with the Cross-Time Kang Korps in pursuit to stop her.

(Cover Date: November, 1988) Summary: The quinjet skims the surface of the time bubble, unable to enter. The Cross-Time Kang Corps free the team from Nebula's Mindbenders. During the ensuing struggle, Nebula & Dr. Druid are lost in the void. After returning to their base on Earth, the remainder of the team disbands for different reasons.

After fighting them off, they go back to the castle to confront Nefaria & then must deal with the traps he has waiting for them. After Nefaria is captured, one Avenger is left critically wounded. A disgusted Cap sees a promo on TV for a documentary on the Red Skull that is sympathetic toward him. Jarvis' brother, Kyle, tells James Stark that the FBI contacted him about Cap's activities. Cap walks out of a TV show when James attacks his stance regarding the Red Skull & the Avengers' actions on H-Day. Cap's heart races as he thinks back to H-Day. Cap remembers finding Spider-Man near death after being impaled. Cap intervenes when SHIELD soldiers hassle some kids about having an illegal camera & breaking curfew. While Cap is being beaten, the Defenders come to rescue him, then put a hood on him. James arrives at the Raft to see his father, Tony, to glean enhancements to the soldier armor at the order of the president. All that remains of Tony is his head, floating in a vat. Cap is taken to Luke, who tells him that Matt has been killed. Luke talks to Cap about becoming his former self again in order to lead their resistance group. Cap agrees to undergo the super-soldier process after seeing photos of the government's abuses from a SHIELD insider. Afterwards, he says he is going to reassemble the Avengers.

(Cover Date: March, 2024) **SPOILERS** Summary: Cap knocks out two SHIELD soldiers who were harassing a homeless man. At the secret underground base, Rosa tells Cap that he has ruined her life & that they're through as a couple. At the White House, Kyle Jarvis tells the president that they are going to send in the Thunderbolts to deal with the Defenders. Jarvis reminds the president that he is the one in charge. Cap goes to Kamala's home & asks her to join his Avengers, but she refuses. Kamala then goes to listen to the Defenders' pirate radio broadcast. In Times Square on New Year's Eve, the Defenders are attempting to hack into the TV broadcast when they are spotted by SHIELD soldiers & engage with them. Thunderbolts show up forcing Cap to act. Bullseye declines to take Cap out with a sniper shot. The Thunderbolts stand down after shooting a civilian. Cap goes on the air to make his case. The Thunderbolts go after Cap & the Defenders when control over the TV broadcast is regained. They escape on motorcycles. Bullseye again declines to shoot. Jarvis tells James that he wants him to be Iron Man. Jarvis (Red Skull) talks to Ultron, who is trapped inside a computer. The Red Skull found Ultron's head after H-Day. The Skull says that he will turn the world over to him after his departure. Luke & Cap are told that Cap's speech had no positive impact on the populace. Luke tells Cap that they'll do it on their own if they have to. They then receive intelligence on Tony Stark.

(Cover Date: April, 2024) **SPOILERS** Summary: Bullseye gets chewed out by her squad leader for not taking a shot at Cap earlier. Cap goes with Tyler to the Raft to free Tony Stark. Cap is met there by Bullseye who was waiting for him. When James shows up, Bullseye puts a couple of non-lethal arrows in him to shut him up. After securing Tony, Bullseye shows Cap where his shield is at. James reappears as Iron Man. He disables the quintet that Tyler is piloting, & Cap rescues him before it crashes. Iron Man knocks some guards in the river while trying to stop Cap & Bullseye. Iron Man gets Tony from Cap then throws the container into the river. Kamala rescues the people who have fallen into the river & Tony's container. Cap fights against Iron Man. When Iron Man is about to deliver the coup de grace against Cap, he is hit with a lightning bolt from Thor, who has answered the old Avengers' distress signal sent out by Cap earlier.

(Cover Date: September, 1987) Summary: When Thor hits the ball through the roof of the Astrodome during the WCA/ECA softball game, the Silver Surfer enters to warn them that one of the Elders of the Universe has planned to kill them. The WCA's find that the ECA's have all died from an Elder's energy bolt that arrived simultaneously with the SS. SS takes the WCA's in their quinjet to the Collector's spacecraft. The Collector tells them that the shade of the Grandmaster offered the Avengers to Death in exchange for his life. The Collector gives them a poison to drink so that they may enter the Realm of Death. They all die, except for Espirita, who the Collector adds to his collection. In the Realm of Death, the Grandmaster tells the ECA's that the Collector offered the WCA's to Death in exchange for immortality. The Grandmaster tells the ECA's to subdue the WCA's before Death can claim them. The ECA's & WCA's battle each other one-on-one. SS finds Death & asks her to restore himself & the Avengers to life since the doings of the Elders should not be of concern to her. Death reveals her face to the SS. The WCA's win their duels 4-3 & assemble in front of the Grandmaster. Death appears before them, bounded. The Grandmaster says his plan to get Death involved has succeeded. He chases after Catwoman, who has stolen the ransom money, until his batline is severed by someone. Injured during the fall, he crashes into an alley populated by knife-wielding low lifes. Catwoman delivers the ransom money to Poison Ivy.
