“Kings can only understand Kings”. This theme is prevalent as Duke comes face to face with the head of the Autobots in an incredible issue. Mar 17, 2026Hound is a cool addition to the series. One of the first eve Autobots was a U.S. Army Jeep. It makes perfect sense that he would want to hang out with G.I. Joe under the circumstances. His presence in the Energon Universe G.I. Joe title feels like a really, really nice fusion. It’s the type of integration that really serves to maintain a continuity within the universe that’s going to be fun to follow as things progress. Read Full Review

Mar 18, 2026G.I. Joe #20 delivers less of a bombastic crossover clash and more of a quiet emotional detonation, which is a smart play if you care about Duke as a fully realized protagonist instead of a moving piece on a nostalgia chessboard. The issue nails the five basics with a clear focal character, a goal that collapses in front of him, a physical and emotional journey, personal and global stakes, and both human and Cybertronian obstacles that force genuine change rather than cosmetic team-ups. If your pull list is already tight, this chapter earns its slot by meaningfully recalibrating Duke’s relationship to the Read Full Review

Mar 19, 2026Now that G.I. Joe #20 has given us a moment we've long waited for - the first meeting of Duke and Optimus - the creative team can use this ending as a springboard for all sorts of new story potential. It will be interesting to see how the closer ties between the Energon Universe titles are handled going forward - will more characters pop in and out of each other’s books, or will they all largely stay in their own lanes with only occasional mentions of what the others are doing? It will be interesting to see find out, and to see where things go from here. All of the various threads that we laid out at the beginning are starting to be pulled closer together now, and when they all knot together, it should make for something big. Read Full Review

Good fun issue. I even enjoyed the Transformers in this one. Milana is delivering some dynamic action, and his faces are getting better. Still not a fan of how he’s drawing my guy Clutch though, but that’s just some minor criticism (and a very subjective one).

This is a bridge issue. There really isn't any action, but there are some great scenes between Optimus and Duke with Clutch and Hound sitting on the sideline. I'm looking forward to seeing how Williamson continues this epic story.
