Overall, Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1 is a fantastic read for old and new Superman comic fans. As this comic book doesn’t appear promising at first glance, it’s a comic book worth reading. If you’re looking for something new and you’re curious what if Jor-El came to Earth instead, then you’re in luck. Be sure to pick this one up at your local comic book store or online, where copies are available. Read Full Review

Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1 invites us into a new story that brings familiar faces and puts a spin on what we already know about Superman. The first issue paints a well-detailed picture of what we can expect in this run, and I am excited to see where this leads! Read Full Review

Superman: Father of Tomorrow takes the familiar story of Superman and tweaks it into something a bit unsettling and really compelling. Kenny Porter and Danny Earls mange to keep some of the heart that makes Superman special while also exploring how different the world may be with Jor-El on Earth instead of Kal-El. Superman: Father of Tomorrow features strong world building, uneasy tension, and great artwork that matches the tone, making for a great Elseworlds story. Read Full Review

Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow gets a new perspective as the Last Man of Krypton forges a new path. Porter’s writing balances the traditional themes while crafting a new vision. Earls and Filardi deliver on action and intrigue with the art. A new take that will change the way you look at the Superman mythos. Read Full Review

Superman: Father of Tomorrow #1 explores some interesting themes through a twisted version of the classic Superman story. Porter has done a great job in this first issue with his narrative perspective and plot devices, and I'm excited to see what he does in the rest of this mini-series. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

Superman: Father of Tomorrow Issue 1 is a fresh approach to a familiar story. The foundations of the world and the story have barely been changed at all; it’s merely the being that steps out of the landing craft. Read Full Review

So what I want an Elseworld to do is get my attention and want to learn more of this new timeline or world. And this did this. I want to learn more here. I haven't seen enough of this Jor-El to know if he has the characterization to carry a book but enough of a cast is here to make me think the world is intriguing. Read Full Review

Maybe an Elseworlds story that is better left elsewhere. It’s a compelling idea, yes, but the rocky start and uneven art of this mini-series leave me uncertain it will offer anything new, as it swaps out Kal-El for Jor-El in the role of Superman. Read Full Review

Overall, this issue is a mixed bag for me. It has a lot of potential that it flirts with constantly, but its rushed pacing killed a lot of my interest and stymied some of its greatest strengths. This could just be a problem with establishing the status quo, however. I can easily see it correcting this problem by issue two, and spending more time in Jor-El’s head, and developing his relationship with the world around him. This issue wasn’t for me, but I’ll definitely check out the next one to see how it handles its new status quo. Read Full Review

Interesting idea, but with mediocre execution so far.

It's very similar to the Clark origin we all know. We have Smallville, the Kents, but everything takes place a few years earlier since Lex, Pete, Lois, Perry, and the others are much younger.

There's an interesting hook for the future with this whole Jor-El/Jordan thing wanting to help Earth through his inventions, which leaves room for surprises. It's cool to see Metallo as a scientist and Lex marveled by Superman's first appearance, on top of starting to draw some interesting parallels between Jor-El and Lex. For now, that's it,hope it gets better and manages to develop its plots more, since it has a lot of potential. And the art is kinda meh, sorry.
