Sep 16, 2026Avengers: Armageddon #4 will be most known for its big reveal, poorly kept secret that it is, but the rest of the issue is a strong effort. It's well-paced with good character work and plenty of action, which makes it a cut above a lot of event books. That doesn't mean I agree with everything happening in the story, there are still things that don't make sense and some characters turns don't feel earned. But for a book that is supposed to have major ramifications for the Marvel universe, it delivers a solid issue overall and leaves us at the edge of our seats waiting for the conclusion. Plot
The missiles launched from Russia toward the U.S. are part of a strategy devised by General Ross and Maxim Milyukov—the current leader of the Winter Guard (a Russian government-sponsored team of super-powered individuals)—to draw out David Colton; Bucky accompanies them.
Colton leaves it to the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four to handle the missiles; after receiving assistance from Namor with one of them, Captain Marvel decides to pursue Colton.
The final missile detonates over New York, and Sue Storm manages to contain it... though the radioactive fallout remains unknown.

I’m glad to see Diaz and Alpizar back on the art, just in time for the senses-shattering showdown between David Colton and the Red Hulk. I’m also happy to see I was wrong about my prognosis for Colton. Apparently, Marvel wants him on the good side. I’m not so sure though that the direction they have in mind for him is making a lot of sense, although I have to confess I don’t know much about (censored), except that he has the most hideous costume since Wonder Man.
