But Why Tho? - William J. Jackson

    Apr 25, 2023

Detective Comics was already a banger and then V and company stormed the gates in a cloud of midnight to paint Batmans world a deeper shade of black, while Spurrier gave us a maddening tour into the pastel hellhole of Gothams quixotic underbelly. There are no disappointments to be found here, with its great storytelling, majestic art, cthuloid inks, dashing hues, and crisp letters. Read Full Review

    COMICON - Scott Redmond

The 'Gotham Nocturne' keeps rolling along as 'Detective Comics' #1071 begins to peel back more of the curtain surrounding the history of the Orghams and just how tangled it is within the web that Batman has been part of for so long. A fantastic artistic jam featuring creative talents we've already seen on this series, coming together to create an interweaving tale of past and present that is well crafted and delivered. Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield

    Apr 25, 2023

Ram V's run has been one of the most ambitious and atypical Batman runs in a long time, because while it stars Batman, sure, he's only a bit player in one of the longest-running battles in the entire DCU. Read Full Review

This issue does a great job at unveiling the mystery of the Orgham family without derailing the larger plot. The story, structure, and art make for another great entry into this run. Read Full Review

This issue had it all, a great main story, with twists and turns that would make any nerd feel like a kid again. Followed by a backup story that would make any nerd feel confused and annoyed. Detective Comics #1071 is a polarizing mistress, read it and judge for yourselves! Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez

    Apr 25, 2023

Detective Comics #1071 takes a slow train to nowhere with a plot that doesn't move, an extended flashback that isn't interesting or adds anything of value to the challenge confronting Batman, and a lot of unanswered questions. The art's decent enough, but you could skip this issue and not miss out on any important information. Read Full Review

I loved every single panel of the first story! Ram v continues to blow me away. This is everything I could want in a detective comic. The complexity and emotional elements of the story were amazing. I found the story to be fascinating and powerful. The artwork was also phenomenal and matched the tone of the story perfectly. The backup story was also great making this a tremendous book. Ram v is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite writers already as his stories are exactly what I'm looking for. This was brilliant

I want to like this more, but Ram V seems intent on keeping the pace glacial. The ideas are interesting enough that I'm not hating on the issue, I just really want more to happen. I want to feel like each issue is unskippable. I don't feel that way about a lot of these issues.

Two issues in a row of two different overly long tales from times long past...it's getting old fast. Ram V is a great writer, but he needs to stay focused on the main plot. I'm starting to care less about what's going on cause it's taking so long to happen. The backup story was great though.

Man this went downhill quickly. The first issues were awesome, but now it turned into a bad Lord of the Rings ripoff that has nothing to do with the premises. Boring and dull.

Wish Ram V would just go write Orgham Comics somewhere else so we can have someone write Batman stories on Detective. The previous runs by Tamaki and Thomasi weren't great but way more enjoyable than this never-ending run.

Long winded narrative story telling...If you want to write a mini novel then go write a mini novel. This is Graphic Novels. Show your audiance, don't tell your audiance. The balance in the book is WAY off. Then there is the aweful secondary story. That alone makes this issue a failure. -10

Save your money kids, it's the only thing that DC will listen to.
