    Nerd Initiative - Megan Nichole

While Uncanny X-Men Annual #1 was gorgeous and full of life, there was an incredible amount of depth to the story and the characters. Gail Simone and Mikki Kendall shed light to the hatred and aggression that was felt by, not only mutants, but people who had a different skin color than those who went out of their way to destroy them. Impactful, heartwarming, beautiful, and powerful. That’s how I’d describe Uncanny X-Men Annual #1. Read Full Review

Uncanny X-Men Annual 2026 Issue 1 is a beautiful sojourn inside a unique history. What Gail Simone and Mikki Kendall get right is making the story so intimate. Read Full Review

Wolverine’s connection to the first team of Haven House gives readers an incredible story within this annual. Simone & Kendall unveil the hidden heroes with much excitement and drama fueling them. The art team delivers on presenting both timelines with the same message behind them. A great compliment piece to the fantastic work Simone and he team on UXM have been delivering each month. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

Uncanny X-Men Annual (2026) #1 earns its place by delivering a sturdy, stylish mutant Western with real emotional weight and enough blood in the boots to justify the annual label. Its strengths are obvious, the atmosphere is rich, the character beats connect, and the central refuge idea feels meaningful, while its weakness is that it occasionally piles on more history than the page can comfortably carry. Even so, this is a smart buy for readers who want an issue that actually feels like it has something to say. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Jamison Nilsson

For an annual, Uncanny X-Men 2026 is a solid enough issue for its 30 pages but doesn’t do much for the Louisiana X-Men aside from build the world around the Haven House and its already likable mutant residents. Read Full Review

Too little too late to save this title. Gail jumps from horror movies to a western because maybe it’s what she watched on tv that morning. I see solicitations in June have the X-men with Martian’s. No lie. Wasn’t there a whole civilization there with storm and Arakko. It’s enough.
This book has interesting ideas all jam packed into an overly stuffed comic that is overpriced for what you get.
At this rate just cancel uncanny X-men.

    Astonishingly Awful

    Apr 08, 2026

There are enough interesting ideas in UXM Annual 1 to fill a whole mini series, but that’s exactly the problem. Crammed into a single issue it all feels very rushed and all over the place. The reader doesn’t spend enough time with these potentially fascinating characters, and as a result, the emotional payoff that Simone clearly intended falls flat, which is a shame.
The art is okay, maybe even good compared to the current Marvel standard, but cannot make up for the flaws in the writing department.
