The pace, intensity, sense of foreboding was all there... like a waking Freudian nightmare coded with the uneasiness of A Clockwork Orange smashed up with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This is bolstered with DaNi's raw, moody art that is enriched by colorist Matt Hollingsworth's aubergine palette (I absolutely adore the contrast with the oceanic and picturesque tone of Petalon, Greece in the initial sequence pages (it brilliantly gives you a false sense of security and that's quickly stripped from you when you see the context of why Kate is in this remote part of the world).

Overall, this was wholly entertaining with the dramatic overtures and slightest wisps of a campy soap opera. Making a deep-dive (pun intended) into these familiar characters but giving them grace and a redemption arc definitely activated my childhood nostalgia but in the same vein, made me don my big girl pants and think more critically about human nature (okay, she's a tentacled sea creature, but stay with me here): nothing is static...fluidity in terms of growth, critical thinking, and accountability is a wonderful thing and they've capture that ethos here.

Overall, I'm smitten with their sassy tête-à-tête; this is a riot of a romance story, and I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

I do appreciate the character deep dives and respective development, but sometimes, it can feel too drawn out like a soap opera. You want the plot to progress and there wasn't much of that here. There was more teasing of a 'big bad' than enrichment of the overall storyline. It would have been nice to get a balance of both elements in this issue.
