Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti are a duo that has yet to disappoint me, and this is no different. After a battle gone wrong, Clark takes Kara under his wing and teaches her to be less dependent on her powers by surviving on an alien planet where they are completely depowered. The title antagonist of Maelstrom is incompetent, but the book knows that, and so watching her fail over and over is entertaining. A character that I would not mind seeing come back in the future. Overall, a straightforward but really engaging read, and I need more comics about the El cousins working together because they are surprisingly rare.
