Gon and his friends Leorio and Kurapika have more to worry about than just the Hunter Exam--their fellow applicants are deadly serious. Hisoka, the mad magician, nearly kills them in a mock test and Killua reveals that appearances can be deceiving. Then there are the tests, which prove to be as varied as they are difficult. The picky proctors of the second exam demand the applicants perform culinary feats of wonder, and it takes the intervention of the President of the Hunter Association Review Board to convince them to let anyone pass at all!

Comic Watch - Christopher Patterson
Jul 02, 2024Hunter x Hunter's second volume's pacing may be a bit too fast, looking at all that ensues and all that could've been expanded into its own volume, but it mostly doesn't disappoint. This is mainly due to the addition of so many characters to its universe and a compelling, almost, arena that brings a level of cleverness right to the spotlight that the series only vaguely showed with each character being tested in unique ways. The Graphic Library - Sara Campbell
Sep 22, 2021This series kind of throws readers into this trial with minimal investment in Gon, but the trials definitely make him more endearing. He’s not as bright as some of the other competitors, like Killua, but he’s sweet and has a good heart. Killua is an intriguing character. We learn this volume that he comes from a family of assassins, but he ran away from the family business in order to become a hunter. He’s still ruthless and a bit cold, as killers tend to be, so him fitting in with this little group is interesting. I don't personally care for Ton at all, but I understand that there had to be someone to dislike in the absence of an actual antagonist. Read Full Review
