David Hazan keeps the momentum high while Jimmy Kucaj delivers expressive characters, inventive action sequences, and pages overflowing with monsters. Readers unfamiliar with the source material may wish for more context before the battles begin, but the sheer enthusiasm of the presentation makes that easier to overlook. By the final page, the comic succeeds in making its biggest mystery feel enticing rather than frustrating, setting the stage for a series that has plenty of room to expand its world while continuing its relentless monster mayhem.
