Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell
Jun 10, 2026Speed Racer #9 takes this world in a serious direction with a real-world serious issue. This issue reminds me of the PSA episodes of children’s television when I was kid. This adds a sense of realism to the series and makes it more relatable to readers of the series. Speed Racer is one of the most consistent and best series on the shelves every month, and this issue keeps that trend alive. This is an issue that everyone should pick up and share with young people in their lives for the message alone and make sure you order the next issue to get the full story as well. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Theron Couch
Jun 09, 2026Speed Racer #9 might be the most exciting issue yet because of how it depicts Speed and what he does on the race track. It’s not a great issue for new readers since they would have no frame of reference for how different Speed’s behavior is and why it’s a problem. Existing readers will enjoy Speed Racer #9 immensely for its big action and because sometimes it’s fun to see the hero be a little bad. Read Full Review

Plot
The fearsome V-Gas is a drug that unleashes aggression in those who receive it. Speed Racer and all the other racers get a dose of this gas, but the problem is that Speed Racer, completely out of his mind, becomes a lethal weapon, using all the gadgets of the Mach 5.
Racer X, Speed Racer's brother, is helping the police discover who is behind this gas and must prepare to stop his brother, who has become a deadly force on the track.
This comic captures the essence of the classic anime on which it is based, but adds a more adult tone. Speed Racer was known in Latin America as Meteoro and was a legendary anime and a milestone in pop culture with a huge legion of fans who grew up in the 1970s and 80s.>
Art
It is influenced by manga, with touches of Western comics, but necessary to capture the visual essence of the original anime.
