The Graphic Library - Sara Campbell
Jul 26, 2026Urasawa is one of my favorite mangaka because his stories are always super intricate, and you can never figure everything out until he wants you to have all of the pieces. The stories also tend to weave moments from history as well. In this case, Billy Bat brings in post-war Japan and efforts to rebuilt and stabilize the country. These setting details ground the work and make everything richer and more interesting. Urasawa also has a knack for creating interesting characters, especially some of the supporting cast. Kevin is a lovable idiot (he rarely knows what’s going on), but my favorite people in this first volume have been some of the side characters he encounters that are only around for a few pages or panels.
