  What makes the issue work so well is how confidently it juggles different tones without losing focus. The book can be violent one moment, ridiculous the next, and surprisingly sincere right after that, yet it all feels like part of the same energetic story. Benito Cereno and Mark Englert continue to prove how much life there is in this corner of the universe, and this issue leaves the reader wanting to see what kind of disaster hits the team next. If you enjoy superhero comics that are action-packed, funny, strange, and full of personality, Capes #9 is absolutely worth picking up.   You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

  It's a lot more difficult to be original with a superhero comedy than it might have been in the past. So much has already been done. There are aspects of the pulse and rhythm of Capes which compare favorably with say...Edlund’s original Tick comics from the 1980s. Capes lacks the visual appeal of Edlund’s rendering and the sheer weirdness of his writing, though. It's fun enough to use mundane workplace drama with a more fantastic superhero sort of an atmosphere, but the basic foundations do run the risk of undermining the overall appeal of superhero fantasy. Cereno and company aren’t quite managing the right mix to maintain a steady appeal for Capes. Read Full Review
